Arrants Family of Sullivan County, Tennessee

 
     
The first European settlements in Maryland were made in 1634 when English settlers created a permanent colony.

Harmon Arrants was born April 4, 1746 in Cecil County, Maryland. He was the son of Johannes Arrants and Sarah Phillips.

He married Francina Price.

Richard Arrants (1781, married Sarah Ann McKinley, daughter of Isaac McKinley),
Elizabeth Arrants (1789, married Jeremiah Dungan Smith),
Polly Arrants (1791),
Sarah Ann Arrants (1794),
Julia Arrants (1794, married Esquire Jones),
Harmon Arrants, Jr (1796, married Eliza Longacre), and
Nathan Arrants (1799).

The family moved to Sullivan County, Tennesse before 1796 when Harmon appeared on the tax list.

Harmon died on December 9, 1815 in Sullivan County, Tennessee.

In 1830 William, Harmon and Richard Arrants were in Piney Flats, Tennessee.

Sullivan County is in far northeast corner of Tennessee between North Carolina and Virginia and was originally part of those states. It was formed in 1779 when it was divided from Washington County.

Appalachia was the 18th century backcountry and many settlers were Scots-Irish. It includes southern New York, western Pennsylvania, North Carolina and Virginia, West Virginia, eastern Ohio, Kentucky and Tennessee and northern Mississippi, Alabama and Georgia.
